According to a story in the Houston Chronicle, NASA has a plan for
getting photo coverage of night shuttle launches.

"The fix involves flying two modified B-57 high-altitude airplanes on
either side of the shuttle, filming its liftoff and the first two
minutes of flight, said NASA imaging expert Robert Page."

Yes, NASA still has their RB-57F's IIRC. The airframes will be as old if not
older than the crew. All the RB-57F's were rebuilds of B-57A or B models with
original tail numbers somewhere around fiscal1954 or 55. They did get "NEW"
serials when GD rebuilt them.

Well there's nothing *wrong* with the fact that they do; I just didn't know
they did.

There were a couple of Brit Canberras at NASA Ames a while ago
and just as few weeks past there was a B57. Both were NASA
connected.

Oh, I hope not. One of the B-57 pilots will be 55 next month and he's
not the oldest one.

Still younger than John Glenn ;-)

I'd like to think that I'd be flying Canberras at 55; I don't do that now,
but I can dream.

And what's more, have used them under combat conditions in the current
century.

Yep they were doing photo-recon over Afganistan, just because somthing is
old it does not mean you throw it away the B52 being an example.

Y'know after reading this thread I realized I got my wires totally crossed
and while I *read* B57 I was *thinking* B47.
